We made it!! Summer Solstice on a Sunny Sunday in Santiago!

Spain From Spain More from Spain on June 21, 2009

Santiago de la Compostela, 5pm

We´re here!!  Surprise!  Yes, I know in our last entry we said we were going to take 2 days to complete it but that was before we ran into our friend Matt, a pilgrim from San Francisco who we met early on, who was also moving on today, and reminded us that today is the summer solstice.  Stephen got really excited about it so we thought, "heck- what´s another 40kms?!"  (It´s also Father´s Day today too-  Happy Father´s Day, Dad!!)

Well let me tell you, we thought it was never going to end!  Do you ever feel like you´re moving but not really going anywhere?  That was us today.  Just when we saw a sign that said 10km, it felt like another 20!  And then we would climb a hill expecting to see views of the city and-- no-- time to walk some more.  But... we... are...finally... here. Hooray!

We checked into a fantastic hotel right in the Cathedral square called the Parador.  It´s old and historic and beautiful and has a Fairmont vibe to it.  Our biggest splurge yet but still very reasonable.  It has one of those full size raindrop-type showerheads.  Ah, sweet luxury!  Stephen is enjoying his usual siesta and I am out and about checking out the town.  We are staying a full day here tomorrow and then most likely walking on to Finisterra.  Going to take it all one step at a time and bask in the satisfaction of our arrival.  29 days and 800kms.  Feels good to be here!

Talk soon and much love,

Andrea & Stephen

I was in London today for Father's day. I bought some beautiful hanging baskets and pots there...my little backyard is so lovely....wish you were here for a drink!

Please say a prayer for me in some church or do some little good wish ritual....I would love that.

Again, let me say how proud I am of you! I love hearing about your adventures...keep em' coming. Can't wait to hear about Italy and all the food! xo much love Lisa
