Cangas, 7:24am
Well, yesterday was a lot of fun. We got up, walked down along the waterfront for a couple of hours to check out the beachstrip. We had heard from our hotel clerk, Fernando, that there were a few beaches to check out so we packed a bag with towels and a few snacks and went for a good stroll. We found a few small beaches but unfortunately not enough sun to really sit out and enjoy so we wandered back and decided to take the ferry across to Vigo to see a movie. I don´t know why, but ever since we got to Spain I have been wanting to see a movie in Spanish. I guess number one, I love movies and number two, I wanted to see how much I would actually understand, given that I have now been in this country a month and have picked up on bits and pieces of the language. We went to see "Corozone de Tinta" or "Inkheart", as you probably know it, with Brendan Fraser and Paul Bettany. It was kind of funny seeing their mouths move with different voices and unmatching words coming out of their mouths. I was impressed actually with how much I understood. The details of the dialogue were fuzzy but the story was quite clear to me. I really enjoyed it. Stephen was regretting a bit that he didn´t go see Terminator-- we could hear the impact and volume of the action sequences from our theatre`. I guess robots and action sequences are more universally understood :)
We then wandered around the shopping district a bit and Stephen bought a couple of shirts from H & M. It´s a good thing he did too- when we got home, one of his shirts that had been hanging in the window had fallen down onto the street and someone must have swiped it. He has lost a lot of clothing so far... but it just means he gets to buy more, so I don´t think he really minds too much :) I was proud of myself for not buying anything...but then I did do a lot of shopping for this trip before I left Canada. I wouldn´t have space to carry anything else anyway! I am so looking forward to getting the rest of my clothes in Paris! I´m a little tired of wearing hiking gear all the time.
We got back to Cangas and relaxed for a bit until 11:30pm, when the bar below our hotel got cooking with a local live musician who plays there every Saturday night. I had heard great things about him from Fernando (our hotel clerk) so I was really looking forward to it. It was basically one guy with a microphone and a Spanish guitar. I do love the Spanish guitar :) He was a pretty good singer but I was probably most entertained by his song selection, particularly the English songs he translated into Spanish like Billy Joel´s "The Piano Man". It´s kind of random to hear that one on guitar in another language! Ah...good times :) We are really enjoying our time here in Cangas. A couple more days of relaxing here will be nice.
Have a beautiful day everyone,
Andrea & Stephen
