Hola de Estella!

Spain From Spain More from Spain on May 28, 2009

Beunos tardes!

Well, we have had a great couple of days.  We stayed in Pamplona 2 nights ago- where they do the running of the bulls--stayed in a creepy dark old pension but had the best sleep yet there.  Then yesterday we had such a treat.  There is a detour that is recommended in our guidebook called Eunate- it´s basically this 1000 year old church and hostel that they believe the Knights of the round table used to visit.   It´s a total hidden gem.  We were the first to request a spot for the night so we had the royal treatment.  The gentleman who runs it made us lunch, dinner and then breakfast this morning...a pilgrim´s dream.  I have never had so much bread in my life!  (The Europeans clearly don´t worry about carbs)  We even went into the church for a very nice little service after dinner.  We were each allowed to speak and offer a prayer out loud if we wished.  I said a few words then decided to sing a verse of the Ave Maria--I figured I might never get another chance to try out those acoustics. They were amazing. It was pretty special.  I will post photos as soon as I can.

Today we are in Estella.  We walked 7 hours or 27 km to get here today.  The walking is starting to feel much easier.  We are now waiting for all the shops to open so we can go buy some fresh veg for dinner.  It´s pretty difficult to eat vegetarian here but we are doing well buying from the markets.  Today was by far the hottest day- I am actually starting to get some colour.

Well...hope you are all well and thanks to all for your messages.  We really appreciate them.

Hasta la vista,

Andrea & Stephen

Following your footsteps . It sounds so exciting. Wish I could have been there to hear you sing in that historic place. Carbs are good for you, I love them!
Love you both, keep on treking.

I am so happy you are on this once in a lifetime pilgrim. Sounds like a lot of fun. The walking legs must be starting to get used to it by now. Albeit a ways more to go.
All the best...and you go girl
