Cangas, 4:45pm
Well...we had a great rest of the day yesterday. Our Spanish fiesta, which I originally expected to be a lively party with dancing in the streets and crowds on the beach actually turned out to be a mellow hippie fest at one of the most beautiful secluded beaches I have ever seen. There were bongo drums and a few bonfires and maybe 30 or so hippie backpackers, smoking, toking, camping out and drinking beer. A few dogs running around but other than that, a very mild evening. It was perfect actually because we were getting up early to catch the first bus back to Santiago.
A few days ago, when we first arrived there, Stephen saw a photo in the tourism office that caught his eye. It was on a brochure for a group of islands called Islas Cies, which is apparently a national park with incredible beaches and marinelife, birds and flowers. We found out that if you go to Vigo, (a town that my parents co-incidentally are going to visit on their upcoming cruise) you can take a ferry over to them. So today we arrived in Vigo and took a ferry over to a village across the bay called Cangas. A really nice woman overheard me at the bus station asking for info and she jumped in with a suggestion to come here first. There are nice beaches here as well and a very nice atmosphere. This is going to be our base for the next few days at least, while we go and check out the Islands during the day. Stephen is super excited. He has had enough of pilgrims and small talk and walking through cities and towns! :) We just checked into our hotel, very centrally located and very affordable.
So we relax tonight and head over to the islands tomorrow. One of the beaches there was voted best beach in the world by a reporter from a British paper in 2007. We´re going to have to find out if he´s right or not...
Until next time...
Buenos tardes,

Well now the truth comes out, I wondered who would be the first to admit, enough walking. Steve, I knew that you would enjoy the beaches, good food, nice R&R. Love you guys. Keep in touch!
The Parents
The beach and islands sound wonderful! We can't
wait to see Vigo and Santiago when we come in
July. I had to laugh at Stephen 'having enough of
the pilgrims" It reminds me of your Dad and I
in Thailand when he told the tour guide that he
had enough of looking at Buddhas! (sacrilegious!)
Keep us posted!
