Finisterre, 9:05pm
Hey all,
We are having a lovely lazy day in Finisterre. Got up, looked around, debated switching hostels then opted for the same place again. Less effort to switch and carry our bags across town and it was a nice private room with our own bathroom. Quiet, clean, perfection. We´re all about the easier options now that our walk is done :)
We walked up to the lighthouse today which is on the very tip of "the end of the world". There´s a marker there that says 0.00km. Basically the very, very end of the Camino. We had been seeing markers since the 150km mark to Santiago so it was fun seeing the very last marker. We also partook in a ritual that many pilgrims do when they get to Finisterre: burning something that you wore on the path everyday. There was a firepit already going when we got there. Stephen burned the shoes he wore- (which he absolutely loved, by the way, but he moved through it with grace and ease- I was proud of him) - and I burned this bright orange long-sleeved shirt I wore every day. I wasn´t too sad about it; I bought it only 3 weeks ago and I have had to re-sew it almost every day. Less hassle for me now :) We took a bunch of great photos so stay tuned, I will upload when I can...
We ran into a German guy named Martin this morning who we hadn´t seen since the first week. It was great to see him again. It seems many people wanted to make it for the fiesta tonight. It stays light here until 10:30pm so we haven´t seen much action yet but an Australian guy invited us to a hippie party on the beach. He said there would be music and fire and "people banging things". Not quite sure what he´s referring to but I guess we´ll find out! Drum circle maybe? ;) It was funny actually, we met him at the firepit and he was burning his shoes too- they were a pair of old Vans and he said that everyone told him he would never finish the Camino in those shoes. But he has been documenting their demise with photos along the way. I think he´s hoping to sell them to Vans and create a whole new ad campaign! I think it´s a great idea, actually.
Had a fantastic nap today. Wow- I needed it. Stephen went down to the beach and layed out for a couple of hours while I was snoozing. He´s already darker than the locals and I of course am still the pale, white girl, with a hint of blush rosiness. :) It´s funny, everyone keeps asking me if I´m Irish; I think it´s the hair. It´s lightened to a strawberry blonde colour now.
Well, we´re going to go find the hippies and maybe a pot or a pan to bang at the party ;) (Forgive me, I´m in a silly mood right now. Maybe it´s the espresso I just had?:)
Hasta la vista, bebe...

Sounds like a great day. I like the whole
lighthouse end of the world and burn something you
wore everyday. Steve I am proud of you, sounds
like you took it like a man and let the shoes go,
we know how much you liked them. Have fun at the
beach party.
Lots of love!

Again, what a lovely story! You should tell those
peeps that Irish girls have freckles! :)
Love you a bunch! xo L
